How to take MOTO payments on your terminal?

This article explains payments taken over the phone, their limitations and the steps to process a payment on a Oolio Pay Terminal.

MOTO is a form of payment where the shopper is not present in the front of the payment terminal but the merchant has the shopper's card details ( 16 digits, expiry date, and the cvv code).

Because of its high risk profile, MOTO as a feature is not enabled for merchants by default. It is only enabled on request and on signing a waiver form.

To enable MOTO payments, please follow these steps:

  1. Request the MOTO feature, or SAQ-B form, by sending an email to support.pay@oolio.com by mentioning Trading Name and Legal Name of the Business. CC the signing authority for the business in the email
  2. Please note that we only enable MOTO on one physical terminal per venue as a standard practice. So, when requesting the feature, make sure to include the serial number of the payment device on which you want it enabled. The limit for this feature should be less than or equal to $1000.
  3. If your request for a MOTO limit exceeds $1000, please mention so in your email. You will need to undergo a round of compliance verification.

We appreciate your cooperation as we prioritise security and compliance in all our transactions.

      2. Enter your Transactions passcode, and select the Confirm key.

    • On an Android terminal:

      1. Select Transactions > New transaction.

      2. Enter your Transactions passcode, and select Continue.

  2. Select Moto payment.

  3. Enter an amount and confirm.

  4. Follow the instructions on the display to enter the shopper's card number, expiry date and CVC code. The terminal may also ask you to enter the shopper's postal code (zip code) and house number.

MOTO transactions, unlike your standard payments, do not apply surcharge automatically. For eg: If surcharge is 1.65%  and the amount to be collected is $100, in a MOTO Transaction you need to manually enter $101.65 if you intend to not bear the fee for the transaction.

MOTO payment through your POS (Integrated)

Depending on your POS, you might have the ability to take integrated MOTO payments or not. For example: BePoz or IdealPOS gives you the ability to take Integrated MOTO Payments whereas with Oolio POS you need to initiate a MOTO payment manually from the terminal and close it with a payment method called MOTO on your POS for reconciliation.

Please reach out to your respective POS Support to understand whether they support Integrated MOTO payments or not and steps to use  if they do.
